On August 10th, 2016, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, Prime Minister with Mrs Atchaka Sibunruang, Minister of Industry, Mr. Pichet Durong-Keveroj, Minister of Science and Technology and General Anantaporn Kanjanarat, Minister of Energy visit Electric Vehicle booths before start meeting of National Energy Policy Committee at Santi Maitree Building, Government House.

The purpose of this activity is to show that the government interests in Electric Vehicle technology and try to promote EV in Thailand. This activity is cooperation between government sector and private sector such as Ministry of Energy, Provincial Electricity Authority, PTT Public Company Limited include the manufacturer for example BMW, YAMAHA, HONDA and Tuk Tuk Factory. Prime Minister tested driving and riding the Electric Vehicle and listen about a performance of Electric Vehicle Technology.

The Electric Vehicles were shown in this activity such as Electric car BMW i8, BMW i3, Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model S, Electric motorcycle such as YAMAHA E-Vino, Honda EV Neo.

The prime minister says that Electric vehicle is an alternative for people. In the future Thailand may produce Electric Vehicle. However EV manufacturing must not hit Eco Car market that already have a production in Thailand.

The government intends to promote EV in Thailand. Firstly they will contribute in bus and passenger car. At this time the government sector prepare for support EV policy such as Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industrial and Board of Investment provide an incentive measure to induce the investor. Department of Land Transport (DLT) set up a standard of motor power for vehicle registration. Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) set up a standard Electric Vehicle for example Motor, Battery. Ministry of Energy plans for electric consumption and number of charging station.

Recently, the cabinet approve for reduce or except EV (CBU) custom tax and authority to import spare part that has no production in Thailand. A condition of this measure is require the investment plan about EV assembly and production plan for important spare part such as battery, motor and investor have to request for incentive in this year. This measure aim to testing EV market in Thailand.
