Life Saving Sticker Campaign

The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association carried on with their life saving sticker campaign dubbed as “Helmets Save Lives” by visiting major motorcycle dealership shops on August 24, 2016. MDPPA aims to mobilize other stakeholders to help them to address the road safety problems.

The campaign is in line with the association’s road safety advocacy where stickers will be included in the customer’s kit. Not all riders are enthusiastic about helmet laws which some local government units ban the wearing of helmets to address criminality setting aside concern for safety. The motorcycle owners are encouraged to attach the sticker to their motorcycles or helmets that may serve as a constant reminder to wear helmet every time they hit the road.

MDPPA, FAMI, Life Saving Sticker CampaignA total of 400 ‘Helmets Save Lives’ campaign stickers, 400 road safety manuals, and 120 “Helmets Save Lives” key chains were distributed to Ropali Corporation in Pasig, and Motortrade Nationwide Corporation, KServico Trade, Inc. and Wheeltek Motor Sales Corporation in Cubao, Quezon City.

The sticker campaign aims to send riders a strong message of safety, increasing the use of helmet and improving knowledge of basic traffic rules. It is no big surprise that motorcyclists who wear helmets are less likely to suffer major head injuries than those who do not. Studies would show that riders with helmets had an 85% reduction in the risk of head injury and 88% reduction in their risk of brain injury.

According to the Philippine Department of Health (DOH) report in 2013, nine out of ten who died in motorcycle accidents were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident. This was based on the 13,883 injury cases recorded by the Online National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (ONEISS) in the last quarter of 2012. The figure was culled from 86 participating government and private hospitals for the said period.
