Bentong, Pahang, 19th June 2017 – Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn. Bhd (HLYM) has embarked on its 19th Yamaha Balik Kampung Road Safety Campaign 2017. Officiated by the Minister of Transport, YB Dato’ Sri Liow Tiong Lai, this annual event is a joint effort between HLYM and the Malaysian Motorcycle & Scooter Dealers Association (MMSDA). Emphasis was on raising road safety awareness for motorcyclists preparing to balik kampung for Hari Raya.
“Running red lights happen almost casually amongst our road users, be it on a motorcycle or by driving a car. This bad habit contributes to the high number of road accidents in our country. This must stop, not only for their own safety but also for the safety of others” said Dato’ Jim Khor, Managing Director of HLYM during the launch.
Riding on the theme ‘Alah bisa, tegal biasa! Berhenti di lampu merah, amalan mulia’, HLYM has produced a short video clip highlighting the importance of obeying traffic lights. After all, it only takes a moment to stop and wait for your turn rather than risking an accident to save just a minute or two.
Supporting this road safety campaign included Fung Keong Rubber Manufactory (M) Sdn Bhd (FKR Tyre) and NGK Spark Plugs Malaysia Bhd, with a number of technical representatives on hand to inspect and advise on tyre and spark plug conditions. Aeon Credit Service (M) Bhd and KHI Helmets Industries (M) Sdn Bhd each provided 500 and 300 SIRIM approved helmets for a one-to-one replacement programme for damaged and aged helmets, conducted at various locations on a first-come-first-served basis. Also, all registered participants walked away with a free safety vest courtesy of Pacific & Orient Insurance Co. Bhd and MMSDA.
A 7-point safety check on motorcycles, accompanying Yamaha safety leaflets, was conducted by HLYM trained service technicians which helped motorcyclists understand the condition of their vehicles.
This year, the Yamaha Balik Kampung Road Safety Campaign will also be at the following locations from 9.00am onwards:
